World of Color 411

World of Color is hands down one of my all time favorite nighttime shows that Disney does. I still remember the first time I saw it, I stood completely in awe with tears coming down my face for almost the entire show. Many years and viewings later, I still get goosebumps and even shed at least one tear every single time I watch World of Color. But if you have no idea what it is let me break it down for you…

What is it?

World of Color is one of the many nighttime entertainment options that are offered at the Disneyland Resort inside California Adventure. World of Color features a kaleidoscope of color and storytelling through water, fire, lights and music. It’s essentially a water show on Disney steroids.

The actual show changes seasonally. So during the holidays they will be especially themed for Halloween/Christmas. I’ve seen quite a few different iterations of World of Color and they are all wonderful, but I think Christmas was my most favorite!

How do I watch it?

Without any extra expense, all viewing areas are standing room only in roped-off sections in Paradise Gardens Park. Each guest will need to join the virtual queue via the Disneyland app. The queue will open at 12:00pm and is on a first-come first-serve basis… so when it fills up you will not be allowed into the roped-off viewing sections. You will be allowed to enter the viewing sections 45 minutes before the show begins and the app does a great job explaining what color viewing section you are in and where to go to enter it.

If you missed the virtual queue, never fear! Just stop by the Paradise Bay viewing area 30-40 minutes before the show starts and check-in with a Cast member for walk-up viewing options.

Upgraded Viewing: Dining Packages & Dessert Party

If you want an easy and great way to watch World of Color in a premium spot, consider doing a Dining Package at Wine Country Trattoria or Storytellers Cafe. Not only will you get a great meal but you’ll also get a voucher to enter the Preferred Viewing Area for World of Color. The views are better than the virtual queue but it still is standing room only.

Hands down the BEST way to watch World of Color is by purchasing tickets for the World of Color Dessert Party. Oh my lord, after a day of walking the parks you will be SO GLAD you upgraded to this option when they usher you to a TABLE TO SIT AT. As you sit back and relax, you’ll have a waiter bring you a selection of desserts and cheeses, you can order a special adult beverage or two, enjoy unlimited soft drinks or bottled water AND have the absolute best seat in the house for the show. At $89 per person, it’s definitely an “extra” but so so worth it. I will say, I’ve never done this option with children though (we always have our little one back in the hotel bed by the time the show starts), but I would suggest doing it if you plan to keep your kids up that late. Having a dedicated spot to sit is just an absolute game changer at the end of a long walking day.
